
POST OF METEOROLOGICAL TRAINEE
The Board of the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority (AASPA) wishes to inform the general public of a job vacancy within the AASPA.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill one (1) vacant post of Meteorological Trainee in the Airport Division of the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport under the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority. This post requires a four-month course which is followed by two months of on-the-job training at one of the main Meteorological Offices in the Region
Duties to include:
- Keep continuous watch over meteorological conditions to appraise and identify the significant and changing weather phenomena that area affecting or likely to affect the area of possibility throughout the watch period.
- Operating the conventional Met Station and the Automatic Weather Station (AWS).
- Upkeep the conventional Meteorological Station to ensure equipment is in good working condition (Stevenson screen equipment housed within, rain gauge etc.)
- Collect and compile local meteorological data such as wind speed and direction, visibility, weather condition, cloud (type, amount and height) temperatures and dew point and atmospheric pressure, on an hourly basis for local aeronautical use.
- Sending reports on a timely basis via the EDIS Data System or approved communication system in agreement with Technical Regulations and contents representativeness and timeliness.
- Enter meteorological data into EDIS Data Base daily.
- Reporting any equipment and observation system failures, as well as operational occurrences, on appropriate forms provided.
- Ensure that approved visitors to the meteorological office maintain proper decorum and do not interfere with the unit’s operations.
- Participate in all airport emergency exercise drills.
- Perform any of the related duties as required by the job function.
The incumbent must possess the following:
- Possess as a minimum of at least five (5) C.S.E.C. or G.C.E. O’Level subjects, grades I, II or III, which must include English Language, Physics and Mathematics and (Preference will be given to those applicants who have pursued C.A.P.E or G.C.E. A’Levels in the Science/Mathematics disciplines).
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills with clear and demonstrable ability to use the English Language.
- The individual must be honest, reliable and must have strong interpersonal skills
- Be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- The applicant is required to undertake a training course at prior to commencement of fulltime employment at an approved School. After successful completion of the required course, you will be required to work under the supervision of an On-The- Job-Training Instructor (OJTI) and assessed competent.
